Course Overview

This course aims to provide an overview of the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000, and Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the implications they have for the service user and service provider.

  • Define “capacity” and explain the key principles of the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Describe how these may be relevant to your service users and how they may impact on your own practice
  • Provide a basic description of the assessment process required for assessing both mental capacity and the authorisation for deprivation of liberty
  • Describe the supporting framework and roles of others specific to these
