Fire Awareness

Course Overview

A fire can fast become very difficult to control and sometimes spreads too far too quickly for the fire brigade to do anything about. Because it is so unpredictable and more dangerous than people realise, it is very important to be aware of good fire safety habits and to make sure that your fire safety equipment is in good working order. The Department for Communities and Local Government revealed that in 2012-2013 there were 22,500 fires recorded in buildings that were not dwellings, and "the majority of these occurred in non-residential buildings (e.g. retails units, pubs/wine bars/cafés/takeaways, private garden sheds and industrial manufacturing plants)."Fire is a major hazard that can be a risk in many places of work. Procedures need to be in place in case this emergency occurs. The Fire Awareness course will equip you with the knowledge to deal with the emergency and to take responsibility for the procedures used within your workplace.

  • State the causes of fire in the workplace
  • Identify the different classes of fire
  • Explain what is meant by the fire triangle
  • Describe the different types of fire extinguisher and on what types of fire they can be used
  • Describe the actions to be undertaken in the event of a fire
