Equality and Diversity

Course Overview

It has been estimated that in 2004, 410,000 older people lived in care homes in the UK, with numbers increasing considerably over the past 10 years. In 2006 the Department of Health elicited the views of members of the public, and health and social care staff in an online survey. Both staff and patients identified times when dignity was not demonstrated and the Equality and Diversity policy was not respected.More recent facts and figures from the May 2014 NHS England Equality Information Brochure show variation by ethnicity in patient confidence and trust in their GP and it also reveals that the overall patient satisfaction score varies significantly by ethnicity. This course introduces the concepts of equality and diversity. The world has become a smaller place and we now live in a multi-cultural society and we need to promote equality for all members of society, ensuring that everyone is given equal opportunities in every aspect of life. Diversity promotes the inclusion of everyone irrespective of their views, beliefs and backgrounds. Upon completion of the course you will have an awareness of how to promote these concepts and ideas in your working life.
