Course Overview

This course aims to ensure that the learner has the knowledge and understanding of how to recognise and report abuse within the workplace, ensuring they are working to the local Multi-Agency Safeguarding Adults ProceduresSUMMARYThe Abuse of Vulnerable Adults in England 2012-2013 Provisional report has revealed that "a total of 173,000 safeguarding alerts and 112,000 safeguarding referrals were reported for vulnerable adults aged 18 and over in England".The Health & Social care Information Centre states that "61 per cent of safeguarding referrals were for women and 61 per cent were for vulnerable adults aged 65 or over", with half of the referrals being for adults with a physical disability. The alleged abuse was more likely to occur in the vulnerable adults own home (accounting for 39 per cent of all locations cited) or a care home (36 per cent) than in other locations.This course demonstrates all of the processes surrounding this sensitive issue. Within the Care industry there can be instances where abuse may be witnessed or suspected. It can be very difficult and traumatic for all involved and knowing how to deal with this is essential for all in the industry. The contents of this course will explain the types of abuse, the recognition features of each one and the process that needs to be followed in order to report and deal with abuse.
